American actor Robert De Niro announced on Saturday that he was involved in a project to build a luxury hotel in central London's Covent Garden, after participating in a similar project in New York.

If building permits are granted, the Wellington Hotel should feature 83 rooms as well as a spa and two restaurants, the 72-year-old actor announced in a statement.

"London is one of the most exciting and cosmopolitan cities in the world. It's quite logical to create a hotel that represents all that in the heart of the city, in Covent Garden, "added actor, Oscar for best actor in 1981 for Raging Bull and Known for other cult films such as Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver Palme d'Or in Cannes in 1976.
